As I am finding my way to coming to terms with Parkinson’s Disease, I am learning that, indeed, no one is responsible for my healing but myself. Healing is a matter of perspective, as I cannot obliterate my condition, but I can decide how I feel about it. I cannot heal my body (although studies have proven that physical healing can actually occur with focused psychic energy), but I can heal my mind and heart and soul. I can heal and comfort those who are suffering for me because of my condition. I can assuage the worries of others who are afflicted with this disease. I look inward for courage and strength and comfort–and healing.

I’m always trying to “fix” myself (use to be others!). I need to stop thinking I need fixing. I need to believe I’m myself.

That answer keeps coming through loud and clear. For someone who was once diagnosed with dependent personality disorder…and that has gone through cycle after cycle of mentors…that is a tall order, but it is a tall order than I am now equipped to handle….probably always was.

Some thoughts: Even knowing without a doubt we are our own healer, we can certainly use the wise counsel of some friends, coaches, or counselors to help strengthen our vision and provide support. We just need to remember that we don’t need “fixed” … we simply need to love ourselves.
