What do you do when you have to do some things in your job that aren’t aligned with who you are? I’m teaching university in S. Korea and most of what I do is energizing. We love living here, learning new things, trying new foods, meeting new friends. But there are things in my job that drain me. Also, there is so much I want to do and try that it’s hard to choose many times. What do I do?

My Core Genius must be MIA! I’m so in denial about some mild depression I’m experiencing, which shows up as Miss Grump. How can I get my Core Genius back? It’s been years! Any ideas? Any books?

How does one know what that Core Genius is?

Your Core Genius is that part of you that is truly aligned with your life purpose. It is the “world of all worlds” when you are living in your Core Genius rather than compromising in your incompetent, competent or excellent zone. Many times we get stuck in our other zones because we don’t know “how” to live in our genius. For now, answer this question: if someone had a gun to your head and asked “what is your purpose” what would the answer be? Don’t get stuck in the shyness of it or embarrassment of wanting something so BIG. Just blurt it out. That is likely your genius zone.

Ideas…yes, our upcoming telecourse (www.solepurposeuniversity.com) would be a good start. We deal with cleaning out the old so that you can make room for your genius. The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks is a good book as well. The first step would be to look at what part of your life is causing the mild depression, how is it reflecting your childhood, and how can you clean it out to make room for your purpose.

My experience is that we get stuck in things that drain us because 1. we don’t want to admit the truth – that it’s not working and 2. we don’t know how to do anything differently. What if you really admitted the truth – to yourself or out loud – that the way it is does not work for you. Then make a list of what about it does not work. See if that list reminds you of anything from your childhood (feeling small, confined, unheard, etc). You have likely recreated an old pattern. Once you have admitted the truth become curious of other options and let new solutions float into your life. You might be surprised to see there are lots of options that you have not yet considered.

This page appears to get a good ammount of visitors. How do you advertise it? It offers a nice individual twist on things. I guess having something authentic or substantial to talk about is the most important thing.
